Vista really is a lacking Microsoft Product. I’m not sure what the hell happened in comparison to Windows 2000 and XP. Both of those launches went rough, as usual, but not noticeably so. Vista however is just a dog within the industry these days. I’m sure it is even ceding a large number of customers to Apple and I couldn’t blame them.
Hopefully SP1 will get this dog running right.

I’ve heard a lot of complaints about Vista being slow. I’ve had it run slow in a Virtual Machine, but I’m running Vista Ultimate on my desktop machine (3.4Ghz single core w/ 2GB of RAM) and Vista Home on my laptop (2.1Ghz dual-core w/ 2GB or RAM) just fine. I’m quite happy with it. I’m still running my dev box as an XP VM, so I don’t have any dev environment experience with Vista yet.
I can’t say it is "that" bad, but seriously I just would like to see more from Microsoft on the OS front. They have the software development doing well, the video and online technology seems to be rocking too, but the OS software just seems to have taken a step backwards.
One of the major problems with Vista is the whole network stack, they replaced the whole thing from XP with the new stack and it just doesn’t work so well. Coffee shops I used to connect wirelessly to all over Portland only work about 10-25% now. Not a good ratio really.
The other major issue is just the despondant responses and solidity of applications these days. Vista has a large record that is growing of random crashes.
…then of course the driver issue… ugh. Still lacking support. I haven’t had these issues with an operating system since Red Hat Linux 3.2 (I think was the version).
…but all in all, it isn’t "that" bad. 🙂
But anyway, enough of me bitchin’, Microsoft will get it straight eventually. At least the security is drastically improved.
